With the Dukes already being a young team, age won't be able to be an excuse for the new freshman players this year. The four new guys, Hari Hall, Dante Sterling, Joey Mclean, and Matt Risse will have to adapt to the college pace quickly. After a disappointing season last year for the Dukes, expectations are going to be high for the freshman, especially with the tough schedule.
Sunday, Mclean and Sterling both saw time off the bench while Hall sat out with what appeared to be an injured leg and Risse's absence was a coaches decision. Sterling looked nervous: air balling a wide open jumper and getting beat of the dribble twice. However, a few minutes in he settled down and grabbed a few rebounds. On the other hand Mclean came out aggressive and didn't hesitate to pull the trigger. Although didn't shoot the ball particularly well, 3-10, Coach Brady couldn't help but keep him in with his resilience to get to the cup. He also filled up the stat sheet with 8pts 5reb 7ast and 1stl. His playing-style intrigued me so i looked up a few high-school videos and there is no question he is a player. After watching, its no wonder the guy filled up the stat sheet he is everywhere on the court. Offensively, he's a pure outside shooter and an acrobatic finisher at the rim. Defensively, he has sneaky quick hands that continuously disrupt the passing lane. I look forward to seeing the young guy progress even further as the season goes along, he looks like he can help us out a lot and be a good spark off the bench.
