After a rocky career as a Duke plagued with suspensions and off the court issues, the coaching staff decided to dismiss Junior guard Andre Nation. Although Nation led the team in scoring last year and is fourth in scoring this year, Brady and company decided they did not like the way the team was heading with Nation as a team member. Nation appeared to take his frustration to twitter saying: @YBG_Dre : "It's crazy how a grown man can sit in yo face n tell you one thing then go behind your back n lie jus to make themselves look better smh". The tweet seems to be clearly referring to Coach Matt Brady although not directly stated.
6-foot-five-inch Nation is a key part to the Duke's team as he offers exceptional athleticism and poise in clutch situations. The loss will definitely hurt the Duke's offense as Nation and PG Ron Curry shared great chemistry together and are noticeable leaders on the court. Defensively, Nation's length and quick hands disrupted opposing offenses in the Duke's zone.
Hopefully this off the court issue won't effect the Dukes on the court and they will get back to a consistent and winning ball club. Brady did not comment further on the issue and simply said he is "looking forward to the remainder of the season with [his] team". The Dukes continue their season tomorrow at Drexel. The Dukes are up against the CAA leader scorer Damion Lee.
